Category: Ang./Past Archivers: Just tell me ^_^ Rachel's letter: Understanding the Letter: To understand this letter you must understand the factors in the Quest reality. In this series, Rachel has not yet been killed (but this will be her final letter). Similar to the facts in ‘Jonny’s Golden Quest,' Dr. Benton Quest and his young son Jonathan have been sent down to the jungles of South America on work for the United States government. This is the first trip that Jonny has made with Dr. Quest where it has lasted more than a weekend away from Rachel. The different this time is that Race has not been assigned and Hadji has not been adopted. Jessie is living with her mother and is unknown to her father that she is alive. Dr. Zin is alive (barely) and is the unknown reason for Dr. Quest’s coming to the southern jungles. Dr. Quest is in his mid to late thirties and Jonny is roughly nine. Rachel Quest has been sent down to the South American jungles to help her husband of almost twelve years study the environment (the animals, plants, air, water, etc.). The character of Rachel may not be expressed wholely in this letter, but both her love and gentle nature towards people are unquestionably shown. Although a nine year old may not be able to read this letter, his father was the reader while Jonny simply sat on his lap trying to picture his mother speaking the words to him. May 7, 1989 Sweet Jonny, How is my handsome hero handling life away from mom? I hope that you are behaving for your father, he is very proud and pleased with the way that you have been acting so far and he is telling all the adults he can of how special you are. But you already knew that didn’t you? I can’t wait to meet you and your father in two weeks, it will be like the summer vacation we almost had. Even though we won’t be in Disney land I promise ,and I need you to hold me to this, that you, your father and I will go to Florida next summer and we will have dinner with Mickey in Sleeping Beauty’s Castle; how does that sound? Tomorrow is your birthday and I am so upset that I won’t be able to be there with you … but if you look under you bottom pair of jeans in your green bag I think you will find a nicely wrapped present. Never say I forget! Also in your father’s suitcase in a small red box you will find a few surprise for Bandit, he needed some fun too. You know this is the longest we have ever been separated from each other and I miss you so much. Well I have to run to the lab, but never forget that I love you and your father very much (and Bandit too of course) I can’t wait to give you a big hug but for the meantime give a big hug to your father. I miss you angel …sweet dreams till I see you next. Hugs and kisses, and a special kiss for your dad. With All My Heart, Rachel D. Quest After the Letter was received: A quick note in the signature, the ‘D.’ stands for Diane after her mother. The day after this letter was received Rachel Quest started her voyage to meet her family in South America. When Rachel reached South America she arrived a bit early and called ahead informing her husband and family that she would rent a car, to which Dr. Quest insisted he send one out to meet since he would be in a meeting; to which she agreed. This car never arrived; instead another car came and drove to the destination. When she arrived to the camp site Jonny was in town with the workers and Dr. Quest was just returning from the meeting. As Jonny and the natives drove up, Rachel’s drive jumped from his car and grabbed her, pulling her deep into the jungle before the others could react. The next time either Jonny or Dr. Quest saw her was in the arms of Dr. Zin who dropped her in a cage just a few moments before the fatal bomb went off. Rachel Diane Quest was killed instantly in the bomb, before getting the chance to see her son but from a distance and the before she even got to give her husband a loving embrace. To say the least, this one action was the end of the ‘Quest Family’ but the beginning of the ‘Quest Team’. Dr. Zin was able to flee but not before he saw the utter pain in the eyes of the young child and his widower father. This instant when Dr. Zin made the mistake to look at young Jonathan I saw the last piece of innocence the boy would have for what would seem a lifetime. As Dr. Quest pulled his son into a tight embrace he looked down with tears falling freely and saw two golden objects. Apparently when Rachel had been dragged through this pass she dropped her wedding ring that he kept and her golden heart pendant that he would save for Jonny when the child was ready. This letter is the beginning of a series of letters to the living and …to the dead. == Have a rose: @>----(>>>>><)(in a vase) Catherine a.k.a Mad Cat One Official Fic Commentor Guardian Angel of Iolous's sense of honor ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from this mailing list, or to change your subscription to digest, go to the ONElist web site, at http://www.onelist.com and select the Member Center link from the menu bar on the left.
