It was old, almost never used, and he couldn't help but feel somewhat anxious as he climbed up the rusty rungs. Reaching the top, he paused a moment before another figure clad in black, though quite a bit smaller, followed his path. Once he was standing next to him, the two took off to the other side of the roof. Running as fat as they could, they crossed the gap between the two buildings with a practiced ease. Unhooking a long rope that hung near his waste, the first figure tied on end to a concrete pole that was near the edge of the roof. Hand over hand, he scaled the wall downward four floors. His companion followed, and as soon as his feet touched the windowsill the first man had removed the metal bars with a sharp, whirling gadget.Through his electronically enhanced goggles, he could clearly see the numerous red lined which crisscrossed the room, guard dogs for the vault which stood at one end. Both slipped through the bars, impossibly silent. Almost everyone in need of metal barred windows had sound sensors, and every single bank in the entire city state of Nottingham did. In a bizarre dance the crossed the sensors, ducking, crawling, and even leaping in some cases. Finally they had reached the end of the dark room.Looking back at the place he had just crossed, the smaller of the two breathed an inward sigh of relief. He wasn’t destined to do this, like his partner, though he pulled it off uncannily for his age. He watched as his partner opened the safe, his head pressed to the solid metal door. His hearing was enhanced with yet another technological gizmo, and he listened to the soft clicks like a doctor listens to his patient’s heart. In less than a minute he had it open. He passed stacks, each a few inches high, of money to his partner. He in turn placed it in the empty leather sack he had slung over both his shoulders. As soon as they had started the mission, they were done. They returned to their perch on the outside window ledge. They didn’t bother to fix the bars they had desecrated, as the missing currency would be discovered gone in a few short hours. The partners in black climbed back up to the top of the roof, as good equipment was hard to come by of late, and rescued their rope. They jumped roofs again, sailing through the night unnoticed as a pair of bats, disappearing from the scene of the crime as the blackness of night swallowed them whole, leaving no trace of who had been there. * * * FIN... till next time * * * ©1999 Melana Zin === hey! what a rip off! did you know that yahoo only lets you have seven lines for a signature? and hey, i just used two. wup, there's three. so i guess there is going to be no point to this sigature. i think that the limit should be twenty five lines, at the least. i like siggys. they're cool. okay, there's six lines about nothing. well, go read my fics! and comment! now! love ya all! _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
