Missing Pieces: Intriguing By Sarah E. Gridler (Lloisarah@aol.com) Summary: Uh… Benton's employer makes him a tad bit… uncomfortable. Keywords: Alternative universe, Benton Feedback: More than welcome. Dedicated to the BAD girls, for some strange reason ;) Benton sat hunched over the computer, running test after test. His concentration was focused so intently upon the computer screen he did not realize someone had entered the room. "Damn!" he muttered, before running the sequence again. "Problems?" she asked softly. Startled, Benton turned around. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you come in, Ms. Donovan. AS for problems, nothing that can't be fixed, after we figure out what's wrong," he smiled. "I can not tell you how much I appreciate your work on this project, Benton. I can call you Benton, right?" Without waiting for an answer Alexis continued, "Your VR system has helped tremendously. When do you think that we can move on from the computer simulations to an actual test of the laser?" "Perhaps in a few months, Ms. Donovan. I'm only sorry I can not work on the project that long." "Don't be silly, Benton. Of course you can work on the project… you're exactly who I'm looking for to join my team here at Donovan Defense. I'm prepared to offer you…" "I'm sorry, but no." Benton interrupted. "Please, all of my companies could use your talent, and I can pay generously." "No, I'm sorry, money's not the issue, I…" "Benton…" began Alexis as she sat on the counter beside the computer he had previously been using. Her short skirt seemed to hike up even higher, and she laid her legs across his lap and crossed them. "You have no idea what I'm prepared to offer you," she purred. "Excuse me?" She laughed. "Do you have any idea how handsome, how intriguing of a man you are?" Benton pushed his chair backwards and stood up. "Ms. Donovan, please… I…I think I should be leaving." Alexis watched in amusement as Benton turned off the computer, gathered his things, and walked towards the door. He grasped the handle. "Locked?" asked Alexis, taunting him. "Where's the key?" he asked as he turned around to face her. She held up her necklace, dangling on the end of it was a key. "You'll have to come get it," she said, dropping it so that it fell down her partially unbuttoned blouse. "Ms. Donovan, please…" he sighed. "What's wrong?" she asked, in a mock pout. "Besides the fact that I'm married?" "Yeah, besides that minor detail." "It's not minor, and even if I wasn't, your," his voice became ice cold, "Your 'offer' does not interest me in the least." Alexis got up and removed the key from around her neck. "You're sure? You don't want to… reconsider?" "No." "For your sake? Or that of your family?" Benton glared at Alexis. "Leave them out of this." "Your decision, not mine," answered Alexis as she opened the door. "Goodnight, Dr. Quest." He glared at her and then began the walk to his car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Looking for a new hobby?
