"Jonny Quest I'm going to hurt you if I fly off!" Jessie warned. "Relax Jess. I've got this thing down good." He jerked the wheel to the right and chuckled to see the two fly across the other side. Jonny had promised Race and his dad that he would be careful as they rode the speed boat around in the sunny afternoon. "I do believe that if you keep this up my friend, one of us could get injured seriously." Hadji came up and put his hand on the wheel. "Why don't you give me a chance to drive for a little while?" Jonny shrugged. "I was getting bored anyway." As he walked to the back Jessie punched his arm hard. "What was that for?" "Trying to kill me." The boat hit something and Jessie flew back. "Jessie!" Just as she went over the railing, Jonny grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her back aboard. "Don't think I'm going to thank you." He gave a bright smile. "You're welcome." "I think we're in trouble my friends." Jessie and Jonny ran up to Hadji and looked in front of them. There was a large island where there was usually water. "I didn't know there was an island this close to Quest Compound." Jessie said to the guys. "There isn't." Jonny said. "There never was." Jessie headed to the front of the boat. "Well what are you guys waiting for, a written invitation? Let's go investigate and see what's up." The three teens jumped over the front railing and jumped onto the shaky earth below. "This island feels different. It doesn't feel like it's secure." Jonny said. "I don't believe it is, look." Hadji said as he pointed ahead where a group of five people stood holding sophisticated guns and wearing computerized uniforms. "Have the kids gotten back yet?" Race asked as he walked into the lighthouse where Benton was working on Questworld. "Not yet." He let out a sigh. "What's wrong?" Benton clicked off the computer. "All these programs I've been trying to get to work just keep locking up. I don't know what else to do." Race put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sure you'll figure it out Doc. Do you want me to check on the kids?" Benton shook his head. "No, I'll go with you. I need to take a break before my brain melts."They walked outside and went to the cliffs that hung over the ocean's shore. "I see the boat, but I don't think it's moving." Benton squinted his eyes and tried to get a closer look. "They're too far away." Race ran off to his car and came back with a pair of binoculars. "The boat is completely stopped, but I don't see the kids anywhere." He handed them to Benton. "The front's damaged." Without another word the two men ran off to get another boat. Almost as soon as they noticed the guns the sky around them became a fuzzy pinkish-purle glow. "What was that?" Jonny asked. "It must be some sort of cloak, to make this place invisible." Hadji suggested. "That's pretty much what it is." One of the five strangers said. It was a man who seemed to be in his mid-thirties with a receding hairline. The other four walked up and held their guns to them. "You with the turban, come here." Hadji walked over to him. "You might be of some use to us." He spoke to the others. "Take the other two to the holding cells." Jonny fell forward with a jerk when the woman stranger pushed him with the barrel of her gun. Jessie and Jonny were led away as Hadji was forced to stay with whom seemed to be the leader. "What is this place?" Hadji asked when his friends disappeared from the other side of a group of large buildings. "This is the lost island of Knowledge. This place was started by a brilliant professor from ancient times in Egypt. Ancient Egyptians were smart people for their time, but they were held back for their rough location." They walked along what seemed to be a street. It was yellow dots that lined the outer edges of the breath taking skyscrapers. Suddenly a car flew overhead, causing a quick gust of wind to blow by. "This is a very impressive place. How did you come up with such advanced technology without outside help?" He gave a sly smile. "We had some help from the outside world but only the help we wanted. We sent out scouts to find the inventors, scientists, and great philosophers throughout time to give and progress our perfect world. Some of the most famous inventors would visit for months at a time and leave to give out the least advanced invention to the outside world. We would keep the rest and learn to advance it more and more." They walked into a building at the end of the street, and the man led Hadji into what seemed to be some sort of elevator. The doors of the elevator opened and almost as soon as they stepped in they came out. Hadji stepped into the new hall and looked around curiously. Desks lined almost every square foot of the large office room. Small compact computers that didn't give the slightest hum as they worked, had a male or female with identical uniforms typing away furiously. "What are they working on?" The man shrugged. "Some are working on computers, diseases, world hunger, or maybe environmental problems. We knew that the hole in the ozone was going to happen twenty years before scientists from outside knew one existed." They made it to a large steel door on the other end of the room, and the man stared into a black scanning pad on the side panel. The door jerked open, and Hadji was led inside. "What does this have anything to do with me? Why have me come along with you?" He stopped once they entered a solid steel room that shone glossy images from all four sides, including a small door on the opposite side. "I noticed right away that you are a smart young man. We've been observing you off and on from this island for a month now and all day today Hadji." Hadji looked at him for a moment. "How did you know my name?" He smiled. "I told you we've been monitoring you." "Ouch, you know the human body does have over a thousand nerve endings don't you?" Jessie asked as she was literally thrown into a solid steel cell with Jonny. "What do you know about the human body?" The guard woman asked hatefully as she stormed off. "What a crank." Jessie said as she turned to Jonny who seemed unusually quiet. "What's up with you?" "I don't like the feel of this place." Jessie put her hands on her hips. "Duh Quest, we've been kidnapped and thrown in a blinding dungeon and you're just starting to get an eerie feel." She sat down on the ground at his feet and sighed. "What now?" Jonny asked out more to himself than Jessie. "I don't know. Hadji's still out there. Maybe he'll figure out a way to get us out." Jonny sat on the ground next to her and rested his head on the wall behind him. "This sucks. Hadji always gets to have all the fun." "Stop the boat." Race did as Benton said and they slowly approached the kid's battered boat. "Does that look like something an animal did?" Race looked at the cracked wood on the front side of the boat. "I don't think an animal would just slam against the boat without biting it or tearing it up more. If I didn't know any better I would say they hit a rock, but I don't see any rocks around." Benton jumped aboard the other boat and looked around. "They're gone. Do you think maybe they hit another boat and they were taken?" Race thought about it. "Maybe, but I don't think another boat could come and go so fast." Benton went to the front of the boat and scanned the surrounding water. "Look how the water seems darker at the front of the boat, almost like a shadow or something." Benton went to lean over the front, but his head hit something hard that sent him back on his bottom. "Doc are you okay? What did you hit?" Benton stood up rubbing his head and put his other hand out to the front. His hand felt along something hard and solid, but he couldn't see anything. "Race you wouldn't believe it if I had just told you." "Who are you?" Hadji demanded from the stranger. "My name is Nicholas341. I'm head of the potential device scanner or the PDS." Hadji took a step back. "A scanner?" He stood quietly for a moment. "Potential, you're trying to gather thought potential from people, and you want my brain power." Nicholas grabbed Hadji's wrists. "We've become too crowded to take more potentially good minds the old fashion way so this is the only way we can quickly add thought process to our collection. You will be providing vital equipment for us to use in the future." "This island of yours. You use it to float around the world, collecting people's minds and thoughts." Nicholas shook his head. "It's hasn't been that way the whole time. It's just that our population on this island has become a problem. Our medicine has allowed everyone to live long healthy lives, and we just don't have the room. But we still need more minds to work on inventions and such." The door opened and Hadji was dragged into a dark room. "Don't worry this won't hurt." "I'm getting tired of that lady constantly walking over here to check you out Jonny." He gave an innocent grin. "What are you talking about?" "Oh please, you two have been eyeballing each other ever since we've been thrown in here." "I don't think you have anything to worry about. I don't like her." Jessie gave him a 'yeah right' look but she suddenly got an idea... "Oh Jonny you're such a great kisser!" Jessie's voice called from out the cell. The woman guard who was working at her computer stood up and walked over to the steel door that had the small window on the top. She saw an image of the back of Jessie's head and Jonny's face was with hers. "Hey stop it." She unlocked the door and barged in. "Don't make me have to separate you." As she went to pull them apart, Jessie turned with her fist and slammed the woman unconscious against the wall. Jonny walked up and let out a laugh. "A fake kiss. Why didn't I think of that?" Jessie grabbed his hand. "Come on. Hadji might be in trouble." The dark room around Hadji was suddenly flooded with lights. Computers lined every inch of the wall with little red lights flashing here and there. A table with straps laid in the middle. Nicholas dragged Hadji to the table and tried to pull him up, but was surprised by Hadji's kick to his shin. The older man loosened his grip, and Hadji ran for the door. "Door lock." A click answered Nicholas' command. "You're not going to succeed in this attempt to take my mind potential."The man smiled back. "Maybe you're not as smart as I'd hoped." There was a banging on the door that made Nicholas distracted so Hadji reacted by jumping for him. The pounding continued as the two struggled on the slick floor. From outside Jonny and Jessie worked desperately to try and get in. "Step back Jess, let's see if this works." Jonny punched the control panel on the side of the door and smashed his watch into it. The electrical charge made a loud explosion that shortened the door causing it to unlatch. Jonny and Jessie ran in and were surprised to see Hadji rolling around with the stranger they had seen earlier. "Hadji." Jonny ran over and tried to help his friend. "This is ridiculous." Nicholas pushed a button on his uniform and a loud siren rung through the air. Jessie ran over to the controls as the two teens continued to fight with Nicholas. "There." The door slammed shut just seconds before the others came in. Jessie continued to look through the information. "I think I've found how to take down the cloaking so we can get out of here." "Good I think we have Mr. Macho taken care of." Jonny said as they put Nicholas up on the table and strapped him down. "Let me go or you'll be sorry." Jonny smirked. "I don't think that's going to happen." Nicholas angrily struggled to get free. "But how did you know where to find your friend?" Jessie walked over and showed him her watch. "Our Quest watches have a tracking device." Nicholas was confused. "But all of our buildings are steel and are impossible to have any signals cut through." Jonny leaned up to him. "You're not that much more advanced than my dad. He already has come up with things that find their way through your loop holes." "You're just not as smart as I'd hoped." Hadji said sarcastically. Benton and Race were about to leave and see if they could use the Quest computers to find the kids when there was a sudden spark from beside them. They watched wide-eyed as an island waved into view. "When did this get here?" Benton asked. The three kids came running up to the boat, and Race quickly helped them on board. "What in Sam hill has been going on here? I thought you were kidnapped by flying monkeys or something." "We're okay dad." Jessie started. "You wouldn't believe what all happened." There was a loud humming sound, and the island again disappeared. They stood in silence and Benton sighed. "I wouldn't doubt a word you kids have to say." THE END!
