Do this for my own sick amusement. Bon appetite! ____________ He watched her move. Fluid as quicksilver, she darted across the street to catch the newspaper the wind had blown out of her hands. Her arms, her legs, even her neck; every part of her moved in perfect graceful concert. He could understand why Bannon treasured her so dearly. Her pouting lips parted in an impish smile and she flipped her hand up to hail a taxi. Her movements were perfect. He could see the muscles of her arm, even her shoulder under the bunched green fabric of her T-shirt. She was so free. His breath hissed into the wind. Soon, he would be the one who was free... Body Snatcher by LesliWeird "You're home late," Jonny Quest remarked casually as the door slammed. "Race isn't gonna be happy...when he gets home that is." Jonny's inward smile almost crept onto his face. She'd be doing his chores for weeks if she wanted to get out of this one! "Oh?" Jessica Bannon's voice was forcibly nonchalant. "Where did he go?" Jonny rolled off the couch so that he could stand and face her. She was looking a little tense, but what else could she expect if she was going to sneak in an hour late. There was something else, though. Her eyes. The way she was looking at him was as if she were dissecting his every movement. "Uh... Jess, you KNOW he went to the hockey game. It's the state playoffs, he wouldn't miss it." Her piercing green eyes were still looking into his, straining. Searching. He swallowed hard. "I...I...uh... are you okay, Jess?" "Of course, Jonny," her voice sounded like silk draped over shards of glass, "Why wouldn't I be... all right?" She dropped her head and looked away from him. "It's just been a long night, that's all." She pushed past him and rushed upstairs toward her room. Jonny put a hand to his chest where her hand had been. He had never known she was so strong... Hadji stretched his arms as he walked down the hall. He had finished the latest updates to the Questworld firewall, but it had taken too much sitting in a desk. What he needed now was a hot shower and a good half-hour of yoga. He turned the corner and stopped. Jessie angrily shut the door to her room. "No good either!" she growled. "It's got to be..." She stalked over to Hadji's door and cracked it open. Her face fell visibly. Hadji blinked quizzically. What could she want in his room? He took a deep breath and conspicuously cleared his throat. "Jessie..." She spun around, startled, and the look in her eyes made Hadji take a step backwards. She looked like a wild animal, cornered and baring her teeth. It was as if she didn't even recognize her own name. Her face fell suddenly and she put a hand up over her mouth in distress. "Oh! Hadji! I...I...I'm sorry. I didn't know it was you!" There was something alien in her voice, as if she were trying to sound innocent while holding a bag of stolen wallets. She looked up into his eyes. Probing, searching. She stepped slowly toward him. "Hadji..." She struggled, stumbling over her words, and sounding for all the world like an actor who has forgotten his lines. "Hadji, I..." He had no idea how she had gotten there, but suddenly she was pressed against him, her arms wrapping around his back and squeezing him to her. "You have no idea the night I've had!" she bawled into his shirt. "Please... please walk me back to my room." Hadji draped his arms over her comfortingly. He had never seen her like this. It must have been a horrible night indeed. He held her for a moment, feeling her breath on his neck. Then he led her back to her room, his hand gently placed on her shoulder. Her teary eyes widened in surprise as he opened the door for her. "Do you need me to stay, my friend? It looks very much like you need someone to talk to." She leaned up against the door and shook her head. "Thank you," she stammered, "but I think I need to be alone... for a while." Hadji nodded. "Good night then, Jessie." Surd closed the door quickly and leaned up against it. He looked around at the strange room. It decidedly lacked the feminine touch he had expected. Jackie Chan posters and dirty laundry littered every corner and crevice, and the bed sheets were a deep forest green. He had thought it belonged to the other boy. His left eye twitched. He hoped fervently that Hadji hadn't noticed his shock when he found out this was her room. He closed his eyes and smiled evilly. As if it would somehow matter, even if he had. He would be dead before morning, and the others wouldn't be so lucky. A throaty chuckle escaped Surd's parted lips. Bannon would be the most fun of all. He would be on his knees, begging, BEGGING to die! Surd bit down on his lip to keep from tossing his head back and laughing out loud. He minced to the only mirror in the room, a small circular hand mirror, and picked it up. Emerald green eyes stared back at him from a face framed in a curtain of crimson hair. The girl's face cracked into a fiendish grin. Bannon would be begging his little girl to kill him. Jonny wandered into the kitchen. Maybe some milk would clear his head. He'd never seen Jessie look at him like that before. He thought he had seen her looking out of the corner of his eye occasionally, but never... Something cold and wet spilled onto his hand. The milk he had been pouring had filled the glass and spilled over the top. He cursed and sucked on his hand. He was really out of it tonight. He couldn't get over her eyes. How they had looked into his, searching for some hint of something. Could it be that she...? "Women expect compliments," Race always said, "They get upset if you don't tell them how beautiful they look or how nice they smell. It can get really ugly, kid, so ALWAYS say something sensitive and sincere, even if you don't mean a word of it." He hadn't really paid much attention. Girls didn't interest him that much. After all, who wanted to spend time with someone who just brushed her hair and talked on the phone all day? Who couldn't fight or hike? What were guys thinking? Then, somewhere in the back of his mind, a realization exploded like an atomic bomb. Jessie was a girl! Milk spilled over onto his hand again. He glared at the carton. He thought he had stopped pouring that. It wasn't that he hadn't known she was of the female gender, but he had never thought of her as a girl. She was like a best friend. She'd never been afraid to get her hands dirty, and somehow she managed to get into just as much trouble as he did. She certainly wasn't dainty, but he liked that. She was his equal. Tonight, though, she had been something different. Tonight, when she looked up at him... Jonny brought the glass up to his mouth. Or at least, he tried. The overfull glass emptied its contents onto the front of his shirt, but Jonny shoved that into the periphery of his mind. Something more important required all of his mental power right now. Was Jessie trying to tell him that she liked him? Hadji's pants hit the tiled floor with a soft thump. He picked them up and folded them on the shelf next to his shirt and turban. He quickly finished disrobing and climbed into the shower. The hot water poured over his bare chest, almost erasing the feel of her. Almost. He ran a wet hand through his dark, thick curls and sighed. It would never happen. Jessie would want someone like Jonny. Someone who was as alive as she was. He closed his eyes and he could see her smiling. She needed someone who could give her a smile like that, not some proverb-spouting computer yogi. He was a friend to Jessie, nothing more. Still, he could still see her eyes, looking back into his, searching. Had she managed to see what he had kept hidden from her so long? Her surprise when he opened the door for her would seem to indicate that. He leaned up against the tiled wall in wonderment as steam surrounded him. Could it be that... That she liked him back? Surd crept down the stairs. Jessie's body was perfect for silence, and it felt like she had some experience sneaking around. His teeth flashed in the dim light reflecting from the kitchen. The kitchen, where they kept the knives... He twirled a strand of hair around his finger giddily and imagined how best to kill them all. It couldn't be quick of course. Oh no, especially not for Bannon and the Quest brat! He was going to play with them first. Maybe, sever the tendons in their knees and shoulders, and then take them apart a finger at a time. Or maybe tease them by telling them that if one made a sound, he would kill the other. Or maybe even... His mind reeled drunkenly with glee. Of course, he had to round them up first, but that would be almost as entertaining. He rounded the corner into the kitchen. And stopped dead when he saw Jonny shirtless and staring at him intensely. "What the...?" He coughed and recovered his demure, ladylike composure. "I mean, what's wrong," he gritted his teeth, and tried to sound as pleasant as possible, "Joooonny?" The boy looked down and blushed. He shuffled his feet and cast a glance back across his shoulder. Unable to resist the pull of curiosity, Surd stood on his toes and peeked over Jonny. His shirt was in the sink behind him and soaking wet. "What happened?" Surd asked, managing to sound interested instead of condescending. "I... uh," he coughed and started again, this time an octave lower, "Bandit was out in the mud again and, wouldn't you know it, he jumped all over me!" He smiled lopsidedly at her. Surd folded his arms across his chest dubiously. "It's not even wet outside you cerebrally challenged twit!" he growled to himself. "What was that, Jess?" "I said 'Don't you think we should have him shaved again in a little bit?'" Surd answered hastily, waving his hands in front of him. He growled inwardly at his own stupidity. He couldn't let his act slip. If the boy suspected, it would only make this harder. He looked at Jonny, scanning his face for some hint of suspicion. Jonny looked down and put his hands behind his back self-consciously. "Jess, there's something I've been meaning to say to you..." Surd ended away from him, toward the island in the center of the kitchen, and the large set of knives that was resting on it. He wouldn't kill him now. That would be too easy. All he had to do was damage him enough that he couldn't run away. "Well, that is, I think I know what you're trying to say to me..." The Quest brat was still babbling over something. Surd gave him a reassuring smile and nod as he inched ever closer to the knives. "And what I want to say is that..." Surd ignored him completely as his hand glided slowly over to the handle of a butcher knife. He couldn't restrain his smile. "I love you too, Jess!" Surd froze dead. Jonny grabbed his hand and took it in his. A shiver ran down Surd's entire body as Jonny leaned in closer, his blue eyes sparkling. He could feel the warmth of Jonny's breath on him, and the softness of his hand as he timidly held Surd's dainty one. Surd looked around in utter terror. "It's okay," Jonny whispered, leaning in closer. "There's no one else here." He closed his eyes, and pressed his lips firmly against Surd's. "MMMMMMMMMPH!!?!?!" Surd squirmed wildly, trying to get out of the liplock, but his back was against the counter, and there was no where he could go. Jonny broke away looked at Jessie. She was gazing up at him, her green eyes wide and her face looking dazed. He gave her his best smile and clipped her chin playfully with his free hand, just like he had seen Race do. Surd stared up at the Quest boy in abject horror. Jonny held the only hand that could reach the knives! He grimaced and bolted out the door, wiping his mouth. Jonny blinked dumbly as Jessie ran. "Was I too forward?" he wondered. Surd's face contorted and he spat. The boy must have switched brains with Casanova! His eye twitched spastically in the darkness. If he had been planning to kill that boy slowly before now, he was now plotting how to torture him past his eighteenth birthday. How could the little cretin ever think...?! Ugh! Surd veered toward the bathroom. He needed a mouthful of Listerine before he could continue his murder schedule. Soft bright light flooded over Surd as he opened the bathroom door... Just in time to see Hadji step out of the shower in all his glory. The young man yelped and jumped backwards, fumbling for the towel wrack. "Jessie...I..." he swallowed hard and wrapped a towel around himself. "I... I am very sorry... I should have locked-" Surd ignored him and strode in apathetically. "It's nothing I haven't seen before," he shrugged dismissively. Hadji's eyes bulged out of his head as he watched Jessie toss back a green swig of mouthwash. She was so nonchalant, so completely comfortable. She turned to look at him, her eyes searching his face, her hands still holding the bottle. He could see an unspoken question in her face, and a sense of anticipation, wanting something. Hadji tried desperately to breathe, to collect his thoughts. She had to know. She had him cornered and defenseless. If he ran from her now, trying to hide the way he felt, a chance like this would never come again. Patience is a virtue. But when it is time to act, one must act. "Jessie," he began, taking a tentative step toward her. Her eyes went wide, shining in the soft steamy light. Hadji took another step and put his hand on her shoulder. "Jessie... I... I know how awkward this is for both of us..." Surd restrained himself from making a flat hateful face. Was this idiot always so polite? He was in a towel, what was he feeling awkward about? Surd couldn't resist an appraising glance at Hadji's wet chest. That was a body he would HAVE to get into once he was out of the girl's. He blanched, that had sounded terrible. He felt a revelation hit him like a brick. He suddenly realized exactly what the buffoon was trying to say. Surd quivered in terror. Was every man in this house crazy?! Hadji's face was close to his now. "Jessie..." Hadji's voice was a breathless whisper. "Jessie, could you love me?" Surd clenched his fist and prepared to knock Hadji down. He smiled broadly, making Hadji's dark eyes shine. Suddenly the door slammed open. Jonny stood aghast. "Don't you dare, Hadji," he growled, "she loves me!" Surd screamed in frustration and dashed out the door, shoving Jonny violently aside. They were all crazy! Surd panted as he ran from room to room. There had to be a gun somewhere in the house! He managed to find a spartan room he assumed had to be Bannon's. Rifling through the drawers he managed to find a set of handcuffs and a tazer. He grinned evilly. How prepared Bannon was. "Look what you have done now, Jonny!" Hadji accused as they ran after Jessie. "Me?! You're the one who's naked!" "Do you know how hard you are making this for her?" "Oh, she's the one who it's hard for?" Jonny jived back. "Hadji, I love her!" "She loves me!" "Would you get over yourself? You're just getting in our way!" "Oh no, my friend! You are not winning this time! Everything is always so easy for you! Well, not this time! I will not let you take her from me!" "What the heck are you talking about, Hadji??" Jonny demanded. "When was my life easy?!" "I wanted a puppy too!" Hadji howled. "Good! You take Bandit and I'll-" Both boys stopped suddenly. Jessie was standing in front of them, grinning evilly in the electric light of her stun gun. "Hello loverboys," she purred, stalking towards them. Hadji and Jonny took a frightened step back. "Jess, I know you like me, but..." "... Should this not wait until we have at least gotten to know each other better?" "DIE!!" Jessie screamed lunging at the two of them with the tazer. Jonny caught her hand. Moving like quicksilver, she clapped the handcuff around his wrist. Suddenly, Hadji's weight hit her from behind. The stun gun went flying as the three of them tumbled to the ground. "That will be quite enough of that!" Race growled, picking Jessie up by her collar. "Hiiiiiiiiii, Daaaaaaaaaddy," Jessie purred innocently, batting her big green eyes. Race gave all three of them a glare that would freeze steam. Jonny gulped and Hadji pulled his towel tighter. "Race, this isn't what it looks like!" "I know exactly what's going on," Race said evenly, "Surd." He pinned Jessie's arms behind her and handcuffed them quickly. "Put some clothes on, Hadji," he added. "So that was Surd in Jessie's body the whole time?" Jonny reasoned, after hearing Race's story in the car. "Yup," Race's voice didn't sound perturbed, so Jonny delicately put in his next, hopeful question. "Does that mean we're not in trouble?" Race looked at him speculatively. "The most important thing right now is getting my body back up to Surd's lab so I can switch again." The car went dead silent. Jonny and Hadji swallowed the terrified lumps in their throat. "J-j-jessie?" Hadji ventured in terror. Race grinned back at him. "Well I'm not the pope! You guys really lucked out, Dad would've killed you!" "You're not mad?!" Jonny asked incredulously. "Now did I say THAT?" Race retorted gleefully. "I just said that you lucked out. I certainly wouldn't want to be either of you when Dad finds the photo-pen in his pocket!" The boys exchanged knowing glances and began to cry. Fin :) SO how'd y'all like it? And does it actually qualify for all 4 HR categories I think it does? (JJ, JH, DBN, & Yaoi?)
