I love you guys! Like Blood On Snow by Melana Zin Part 7 You must set the wrongs to rights. Change your destiny... Hadji’s words flooded his brain. “Nooooo!” Jonny yelled as he charged the man. Jessie whirled around, in shock, and the knife traveled through the folds of her cloak and embedded itself in the tree, missing her skin by mere inches. Jessie, her eyes wide, looked from the knife in the tree to Jonny exchanging punches with the owner of the knife, and back again. Suddenly, she snapped back into focus. “Jonny!” she screamed. Throwing off her cloak, Jessie jumped onto their attacker. He twisted and threw her off, sending her crashing into Jonny. Their eyes locked as they helped each other up. “Thanks,” Jessie whispered. “How’d you know?” “Well talk later. Now let’s beat this creep. No sweat, right?” he flashed her his trade mark lop sided grin. “Right.” Turning, they both faced their enemy. Together with a few well placed punches and kicks, the man realized that these two teenagers were a force to be reckoned with. He turned as if to flee, but Jonny and Jessie both jumped on him from behind. As the man fell he hit his head on a dull tree stump protruding from under the snow, and fell unconscious. Jessie got up while Jonny straddled his back, and tried to undue his tie one handed. Jessie reached over to do it for him. While in the process of untying the knot, a hiccup escaped her. Jonny, breathing hard, suddenly chortled. They tried to contain themselves, but the whole scene was so funny they burst out laughing. It felt so good to laugh, to have this whole thing finally over with, that they sat there laughing, holding each other, till their sides hurt and tears were streaming down their cheeks. Jessie finished untying Jonny’s tie, and trying to remain calm, they both tied the man’s hands behind his back. They each took a foot and began the long hull home. Jonny picked up Jessie’s cloak as they passed through the clearing, and threw it over her shoulders. “Jonny?” Jessie began. “Hmm?” “How’d you know? Where I was, you know.” “I just knew. I don’t know how. I somehow knew that you were coming here.” “What about Hadj?” she asked. “Oh yeah, about Hadj. He called soon after you left.” Jonny remembered his conversation, though only twenty minutes, that seemed like days ago. He remembered how worried his adopted brother had been, and the feeling of dread that he had felt in the pit of his stomach when Jessie went missing. “And?” Jessie prodded. “He said that you were right about the whole reincarnation thing. You’ll have to get him to explain in to you, I don’t remember most of it, but he did say that somehow the people in our past lives were trying to warn us against our deaths.” “How would they know?” “Hadji thinks that they died the same way. That history keeps repeating itself until the wrongs are set to rights.” “Then that girl... she really did die...” “Yeah, I think so.” Jonny switched his arm pulling the unconscious man’s leg and grunted in exhaustion. Jessie yawned. “Wow, I’m so tired...” They could see the compound through the white flurry that had resumed falling. Jonny yawned. “Me too.” Finally they reached the driveway. Ringing the doorbell, a waiter opened the door. “Yes?” he asked, surprised to see them standing out there in the snow, clothes askew and hair mused. Both were breathing hard. “Will you get my dad please?” Jonny asked him. The man disappeared, and soon Dr. Quest appeared, Race in tow. “Jon? Jess? What in the world...” he said, shocked as he saw the object they were dragging. “What in sam hill,” Race began. “Can we come inside?” Jessie asked, her voice straining. She put her hand to her head, all of a sudden wavered, and fell. Race rushed over, but Jonny caught her in his arms. “She must of fainted,” Dr. Quest stated, “let’s bring her inside.” Together Race and Jonny carried a limp Jessie into the family room and laid her on the couch. A few seconds later she opened her eyes and looked a them, dazed. “Wha... huh?” she murmured. “You fainted,” Dr. Quest said gently, “just try and rest now.” “Where’s Jonny?” she asked. “Right here.” Jonny moved over from behind the couch and sat near her feet. He took her cold hand in his and smiled slightly. Jessie smiled slightly back and closed her eyes. In a minute she was asleep. “Now I want to know exactly what happened, word for word,” Race started, but Dr. Quest cut him off. “Shhh. We’ll find out tomorrow.” Race looked over at the two teens, and understood. Jonny was now lying on the other side of the couch, his head on Jessie’s legs, their hands still clasped. Both were breathing rhytmimacally, in deep sleep. Dr. Quest took the blanket from the other couch and laid it over them. Silently, he turned out the light, and the men left the room for their exhausted children to sleep in peace. ****************************************************************** _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
